The route starts in Samartín de Teverga, taking the AS-228 road towards the Ventana Pass. The climb consists of 20 km of very gentle gradients, running parallel to the Páramo river valley, which winds its way up between limestone slopes; further on, the landscape begins to be covered by woodland, passing through the famous Montegrande beech forest with a maximum gradient of 8 per cent. We reach the Ventana Pass (1,587 m) and enter the province of León via the Babia region.

From here, we’ll find a long stretch of very smooth riding, with the Ubiñas massif as our backdrop. At San Emiliano, we take a turn-off to the right towards Las Majuas, and continue until we join the CL-626 towards Huergas de Babia. Later, we’ll reach Piedrafita de Babia, where we’ll turn right onto the LE-495 and begin the very short and gentle climb to the Somiedo Pass (1,485 m).

After a comfortable 20 km descent along the AS-227, we’ll pass through La Pola Somiedo and arrive at La Riera, where we’ll take the AS-265 to tackle the climb up to the San Lorenzo Pass (1,347 m), a major pass stretching for almost 10 km with gradients of up to 15 per cent, which really puts the cyclist’s fitness to the test after a long ride.

Once we’ve reached the top of the pass, all that remains is a long 11 km descent to Samartín de Teverga.

The natural surroundings, the landscape, the traces of ancient human settlement, and the excellent state of preservation set this route apart as one of the most authentic in central Asturias.
