This route stands out for its natural spaces with different degrees of protection, and could be considered the "Stage of the Parks" as it crosses a national park, a regional park, and two natural parks. It can be done without problem in spring, summer and autumn, and in winter it will depend on the state of the roads, as snow can close the Tarna and Pontón passes.

The itinerary runs through the Redes Natural Park following the upstream course of the Nalón River, with a landscape framed by mountains and beech forests up to the Tarna pass on the border with the province of León. At this point the route enters the Montaña de Riaño y Mampodre Regional Park and takes us, following a wide valley between peaks, to the Riaño Reservoir and from here to the Pontón pass, to enter the Picos de Europa Natural Park, and descend until we reach the Desfiladero de Los Bellos Gorge, and then continue on to Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís in Asturias.

The diversity and beauty of the landscape, with the presence of large peaks and extensive forests, its small and charming villages, and the always friendly treatment of its inhabitants, make this stage one of the most unique in the transition between the Central Mountains and the East of Asturias.
