We leave Navia crossing the estuary to take the AS-12 road, which we will not leave for the whole route. The first stretch to Cuaña is not very winding. Here we can visit the Castro de Coaña, the most popular of those known in Asturias, an iconographic paradigm of the fortified settlement of the Iron Age.
We continue along the route parallel to the Arbón reservoir and begin a 7 km climb to Boal/Bual; shortly before reaching Boal/Bual we can stop at the viewpoint of Castro de Pendia, from where we can see the castro nestled in the valley.
Then begins a 9 km winding descent to the Doiras reservoir, to start climbing about 7 km to Cachafol mountain, where we continue to Illano cycling about 7 km more with little unevenness, half a slope with many curves and an impressive landscape due to the steepness of the slopes.
We arrive at Santesteba and, from the viewpoint, we will contemplate impressive views over the Navia river, the Santesteba cliff and the villages "hanging" from the hill. The village of Santesteba has been declared a "Historic Site" as it preserves its traditional hamlet in an exemplary manner, made up of houses built directly on the rock, forming a motley ensemble, in which the streets are less than 2 m wide.
We continue our route, descending for 6 km to the bottom of the Agüeira river valley, which is squeezed between steep slopes. Cross the bridge and begin the 5 km climb to Pezós/Pesoz. In Pezós/Pesoz we can see the palace of Ron. If we have the strength, we can take a detour to visit the village of Argul, which has been declared a historical site.
From Pezós/Pesoz we cycle another 6 km uphill to Santa María, where there is only a descent of less than 2 km to Grandas de Salime, the end of the route and the beginning and end of the stage of the Primitive Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. The Collegiate Church of San Salvador and the Ethnographic Museum, one of the most important in Asturias, are of interest here.
