We set off from Tinéu along the AS-217a road to quickly join the AS-217 heading west. We ride halfway up the hillside through the valley, passing through pastures and small villages until we pass Xera, some 15 km from the start, and reach the junction that allows us to change valleys.
We continue climbing to cross the Alto de La Llama pass and descend along the TI-6, cycling alongside the River Arganza through a landscape of great beauty. The valley is a peaceful, sparsely populated and somewhat secluded place, with small hamlets such as La La Ḷḷama, Arganza and Rozadieḷḷa.
We continue with a gentle climb, and the descent along the AS-14 road begins almost immediately, taking us to the Puente del Infierno, where we cross the River Narcea and continue along the AS-15 road, which will take us to Courias and then on to Cangas del Narcea.
Courias is home to the Monastery of San Juan Bautista, a monumental building of great historical and artistic importance, with colossal proportions and a majestic appearance. It has now been converted into a Parador Nacional and is well worth a visit – or at least a quick stop for a coffee – any excuse will do to admire this marvel before continuing to the end of the stage.
Once in Cangas del Narcea, we can admire its historic centre and enjoy its charm.
