Tineo

Tineo, the second largest council in Asturias, is a land of Exemplary Villages: Tuña and Navelgas. A land of pilgrims, cowherds, prehistoric, mining, gold panning, chosco, Celtic cud, hunting, fishing, hiking and with a lively capital, which is a Historic Site.

It is the second largest council in Asturias, and in its vast territory there are many cultural, historical and tourist references that make Tineo a place with great roots and personality. It is a land of Exemplary Villages, as Tuña and Navelgas hold this award. Tuña is known for the numerous palaces and mansions that make up the town and also for being the birthplace of General Riego; furthermore, in its surroundings you can take the panoramic route that leads to the Dolmen de Merías. Navelgas is the gateway to the Roman gold route, and the place where national and international gold panning championships are held, as well as being the home of the Gold Museum.

Tineo has a thriving agri-food industry and activity, being one of the largest producers of milk in Asturias and having as its gastronomic hallmark a delicacy as coveted as the sausage that the Tinetenses call chosco. On the other hand, the town of Tinéu, capital of the council, has an active social and fair life; it has also been declared a Historic Site, and its Museum of Sacred Art is unique in Asturias, as is the Monastery of Obona, one of the jewels of the Primitive Pilgrim's Route to Santiago de Compostela as it passes through the council.

As far as nature is concerned, the surroundings of the Pilotuerto reservoir or the Carbayón de Valentín, to cite two examples, are not to be missed. As far as traditions are concerned, some of these can be seen in the Museo Vaqueiro de Naraval, and what is undoubtedly one of the most striking and peculiar is the form of bowling known as Celtic or Tineo bowling, and in addition to local sports, the council is ideal for hunting, fishing, hiking, fruit picking and mycology. The passion for motor racing is also well known and celebrated, which is reflected in the deeply-rooted trademark of the Villa de Tinéu Rally. This is Tineo, mining, Jacobean, autochthonous, ecological and cultured.
