Info
This original and unique procession takes place on June 24th, the feast day of San Juan. The central event, with a centuries-old tradition, takes place through the most central streets of the coastal town of L'Arena, which are filled with atmosphere and joy on that day.
One of the most emotional moments of this procession is the blessing of the waters of the Cantabrian Sea, marking the beginning of the tuna fishing season. At that moment, the sailors carrying San Juan, San Telmo, and the Virgin of Carmen approach the port for the priest to proceed with the blessing of the waters.
The procession is accompanied by the sounds of bagpipe bands and by the children who have celebrated their First Communion this year. It stands out from other marine processions in that all the participants are dressed in the summer uniform of the Navy, a tradition deeply rooted in the past that gives a very different atmosphere to this festival.
Furthermore, the beauty of L'Arena and the surroundings of the Nalón estuary and Los Quebrantos Beach complete a magnificent setting for this celebration.
