Info
They were two saints who were well acquainted with the medical and pharmaceutical science of their time and came from the East. They were called San Cosme and San Damián, and with the passing of time they became famous for their miracles, and this is how devotion and popular memory made the Pilgrimage of the Holy Martyrs of Valdecuna, in Mieres, one of the most famous in Asturias.
Every 27th September, the Valley of Cuna and Cenera fills up with thousands of pilgrims ready to follow the mass, and afterwards they all settle down near the sanctuary and all over the valley to enjoy an Asturian country meal, washed down with the best cider, in perfect harmony.
Asturianism, devotion in green, a landscape of incredible beauty, and non-stop festivities. This is what the Mártires de Valdecuna are like, with a very special touch: the popular Mierense singer-songwriter Víctor Manuel composed a well-known song entitled "La Romería", inspired by this fiesta. So it is the only pilgrimage in Asturias with a song by an author.
