Info
Quesu Casín is one of the oldest known cheeses. It is an exquisite and elaborated artisan product made from raw cow's milk, which has a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin).
The local community of the council of Caso - especially its women - has managed to keep this ancestral tradition alive, despite the harsh vicissitudes that the countryside has experienced throughout history.
From time immemorial, the coexistence between the casinos and the livestock led to a rapport that went far beyond mere economic exploitation, with Quesu Casín being the tasty testimony to this unique symbiosis.
For all these reasons, the Certamen del Quesu Casín has been held annually for several decades, the usual date being the last Saturday in August.
The event revolves around two main themes: the market with the stalls of the producers of Casín cheese and the competition of cheeses made by cheese dairies belonging to the Quesu Casín PDO. In parallel, various complementary activities take place, such as cooking competitions, tastings, workshops, exhibitions, performances by folk groups, solidarity marathon and special menus.
In addition, this event is an excellent opportunity to get to know the Redes Natural Park a little better. Its landscapes, its routes, its museums, its people and, in general, the lively festive atmosphere of this unique area of Asturias.
