First Degree Flower

This festival is closely linked to the great commercial and market tradition that the town has had since medieval times. For this reason, the Primera Flor de Grado is one of the most emblematic markets of the town, and has been held for decades. It is the first big commercial fair of the year and it is always the auspicious sign of a prosperous spring, hence its original and characteristic name.

In its beginnings it was dedicated to the sale of hams, acquiring well-deserved fame in Asturias and abroad. With the passing of time, it abandoned its thematic character and nowadays it is a market where you can find all kinds of products, most of them natural, ecological and very homemade, in accordance with the richness and fertility of the land of Moscona, and the talent and ingenuity of its inhabitants, respectful and knowledgeable of ancestral traditions, both gastronomically and culturally.

So the First Flor de Grado is a great social event, always very lively, where you can enjoy an exceptional market, as well as the hospitality and know-how of the local people. It is an opportunity to eat well, to stroll around, to buy products that you won't find in other markets, or to have a vermouth in any of the colourful terraces of the historic centre of this town. In Grau/Grado nobody is a foreigner and if not, just ask the thousands of pilgrims who stop in this town on their Camino Primitivo. And all this is evident in the celebration of the First Flower of Grado.
