The Natural Cider Festival

For several decades, the Natural Cider Festival of Gijón brightens up the last week of August and therefore the end of the summer. Undoubtedly the festival is one of the grand, classical venues of the summer in Gijón and has an extensive programme of activities.

Urban art, ephemeral art, the little cider and apple market, courses on cider pouring, the cider bus, the visits to emblematic cider cellars, the cider pouring competition, theatre, the cancios de chigre (traditional songs), food tasting and the presentation of prizes are some of the typical activities of a festival which floods streets and squares with a special atmosphere, and permeates the city with the air of cider.

Especially outstanding is the world record of simultaneous pouring which is beaten each year on the famous Poniente Beach, and which adds a touch of colour and originality which is unique in the world.
