The Fiesta of the Santo Cristo del Amparo de Nueva puts the final touch to the summer cycle. Every 13 and 14 of September, this famous village of Llanes with its renowned beauty celebrates one of its most characteristic fiestas.
As normally occurs in the villages and hamlets of Llanes, the traditions – especially those related to dancing and music – are the most outstanding, and Cristo del Amparo is no exception. Thus, on September 13 the pipe bands and the regional dances take centre stage, especially the Dance of the Cristo.
September 14 is the grand day, with Mass and an impressive procession. The dances continue to enliven the fiesta and the Dance of the Cristo is repeated. In the evening the main event is the Dance of the Married Couples, and the fun reaches its high point with a grand verbena (open air music and dance) ending with a bowl of garlic soup.
