Info
The Fiesta del Santo Cristo del Amparo de Nueva marks the end of the summer cycle. Every 13 and 14 September, this famous village of renowned beauty from La Llanja celebrates one of its most characteristic festivals.
As is often the case in the towns and villages of Llanes, traditions - especially those related to dances and music - are of the utmost importance, and the Christ is no exception. So on the 13th, the bagpipe bands and regional dances take centre stage, especially the Danza del Cristo.
The 14th is the big day, with mass and an impressive procession. The dances continue to enliven the fiesta and the Danza del Cristo is repeated. In the afternoon, the Danza de los casados (Dance of the Married Couples) takes centre stage, and all the merriment ends with a great verbena (open-air dance), the final climax of which is the sopas de ajo (garlic soup).
