The Feast of Santo Cristo del Amparo in Nueva somehow marks the end of the summer season. Every September 13th and 14th, this famous village of recognized beauty celebrates one of its most characteristic festivals.
As is often the case in the villages and hamlets of Llanes, traditions - especially those related to dances and music - are of utmost importance, and the Christ festival is no exception. On the 13th, bagpipe bands and regional dances take center stage, especially the Dance of the Christ.
The 14th is the main day, with a mass and impressive procession. The dances continue to liven up the festival, and the Dance of the Christ is repeated. In the afternoon, the Dance of the Married Couples takes the spotlight, and all the joy culminates in a grand open-air dance, where the final highlight is the garlic soup.
