The Feast of Santa María Magdalena cannot be conceived without the Feast of El Carmen, nor the latter without the former. In reality, the festivities of Magdalena are an extension of the first, and it is precisely this new festive episode that causes the people of Cangas to spend almost the entire month of July living for the devotions and processions of their virgins.
The main day of this festival coincides six days after the Feast of El Carmen.
On that day, there is a procession, a mass in the basilica, a fireworks display in honor of the virgin, and of course, there is no shortage of outings and lively open-air dances.
With these festivities, the final touch is put on several weeks of uninterrupted celebration and animation in the town of Cangas, which is overflowing with tourists, locals, and Cangas natives who are away from their land and return each year eager for family reunions, fireworks, and devotion. And, of course, all these festivities involve numerous recreational and cultural events that take place throughout the month of July.
