Feast of Santa María Magdalena in Cangas del Narcea

The Fiestas of Santa María Magdalena cannot be conceived without the Fiestas del Carmen, nor the latter without the former. In fact, the festivities of the Magdalena are an extension of the former, and it is precisely this new festive episode which means that the people of Cantabria spend almost the whole month of July living for the devotions and processions of their virgins.

The big day of this festival coincides six days after the Fiesta del Carmen.

On this day there is a procession, mass in the basilica, a voladores (a kind of firework display) in honour of the virgin, and of course there is a jira and a lively verbena (street party).

These fiestas bring to a close several weeks of uninterrupted festivities and entertainment in the town of Cantabria, which is full of tourists, locals and people from Cantabria who are away from home and return every year eager for family gatherings, gunpowder and devotion. And of course, all these festivities include numerous leisure and cultural events that take place throughout the month of July.
