Info
Les Carroces de Valdesoto, which were born as a festival in the second half of the 20th century, and which are traditionally the finishing touch to the patron saint festivities of San Félix, are one of the most significant events as far as the exaltation of the rural customs and traditions of the Asturias of yesteryear are concerned.
Many of the peñas in the village of Valdesoto - which has many neighbourhoods - work hard to prepare the best float for the parade that floods the streets of the village. A singularity to highlight is that the floats of Valdesoto are very "theatrical", where at each stop the occasional actors of the float perform a scene related to the theme of the float. Many of these scenes are based on Asturian rural tradition and allow the public to learn about habits, gadgets and, in short, a whole culture that is becoming increasingly extinct due to the passing of time and social changes.
The final touch is provided by a good Asturian-style snack-dinner in the festival's "prao", which is completed with the jury's verdict awarding prizes to the best floats and a fireworks display.
