The Carriages of Valdesoto, which originated as a festival in the second half of the 20th century, traditionally mark the grand finale of the San Félix patron saint festivities. They are one of the most significant events that exalt the customs and rural traditions of yesteryear in Asturias.
Numerous local groups, representing various neighborhoods in Valdesoto, diligently prepare their best carriages for the parade that fills the streets of the village. A noteworthy feature is that the carriages of Valdesoto have a strong theatrical element, with occasional actors performing scenes related to the theme depicted by each carriage. Many of these scenes draw inspiration from Asturian rural traditions, allowing the audience to learn about customs, tools, and an entire culture that is gradually disappearing with the passage of time and social changes.
The festivities culminate with a hearty Asturian-style meal served in the festival meadow, followed by the jury's announcement of the best carriages and a fireworks display.
