• Festival of the Avellana (hazelnut) or the dedication to a wild nut

The Festival of the Avellana is held every year on the first Sunday in – in 2016 this is October 2 – in the capital of the district of Piloña, Infiesto. This grand homage to one of the native nuts par excellence of Asturias has the best scenario to make it known in the area of Piloña.

Piloña also has a grand natural tradition, linked to the woods, to craftsmanship, to wood, to ecological agro-food, rural tourism, etc. This is why the Festival de la Avellana is a fun and cultural event with a long tradition in this territory. It has a programme of festive activities linked to the traditional market, exhibition of craftsmanship and agro-foods, exhibition of birds, exhibition of wood craftsmanship, bowling championships, etc. All of which is given the finishing touch of the typical verbena (open air music and dance).

It is a fiesta which shows the respect for traditions and the exaltation of the natural products of Asturias.
