Festivity of Nuestra Señora del Carbayu
Langreo (Center of Asturias) (El Carbayu)
Fiesta of touristic interest in the Principality of Asturias
September 8th
Nuestra Señora de El Carbayu
A trip to the Middle Ages

On September 8, the people of Langreo and its district celebrate the grand day of the area. The place chosen is the Hermitage of El Carbayu. There is the patron of the area and so the most important country pilgrimage of Langreo is celebrated there. This involves the most representative elements of the typical festival of Asturias: the traditional costumes of Asturian folklore, at the same time as the puya'l ramu is celebrated in the countryside with friends and relatives.

The Virgin of El Carbayu symbolises the union of towns and people and is a dedication of medieval origin. A curious piece of information is that the figure is located in a baroque altarpiece on the trunk of a tree. According to the legend, the Virgin appeared some centuries ago on an oak tree (carbayu in Asturian), and she wanted a temple to be built in this specific place, where all the Valley of Langreo can be seen.

Thus, legend, tradition and fiesta are joined together in Langreo.
