Info
There are numerous and very attractive events with Asturian cuisine in Oviedo, and El Desarme is one of the most significant and deeply-rooted gastronomic festivals of all those held in Asturias.
For more than half a century, the city's restaurants and cider houses have been dressing up in their best culinary finery to offer the famous Desarme menu, which is eaten every 19th October, consisting of chickpeas with cod and spinach, Asturian-style tripe and rice pudding. Simply delicious and hearty, and a unique opportunity to commemorate a historical event that dates back to the first half of the 19th century, and which is linked to the Carlist Wars.
Moreover, this festival is held at a time of year that feeds important synergies with other activities such as the Princess of Asturias Awards, which are held and presented annually in the city of Oviedo at this time of year.
Within the framework of this festival, in 2012 the Cofradía del Desarme (Brotherhood of Disarmament) was founded, born with the firm purpose of promoting this celebration of great roots and flavour, and which is an ideal occasion for the exaltation of friendship around good food.
In 2025, the Oviedo Disarmament Festival, one of the oldest gastronomic celebrations in Spain, has been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
