Gastronomic Festival of El Desarme

There are also numerous events showcasing Asturian cuisine in the life of Oviedo. One of the most prominent is the celebration of El Desarme, one of the most significant and deeply rooted gastronomic events in Asturias.

For over half a century, the city's restaurants and cider houses dawn in their best culinary attire to offer the famous Desarme menu, which is savored every October 19th. It consists of chickpeas with cod and spinach, Asturian-style tripe, and rice pudding. Simply delicious and hearty, it is a unique opportunity to commemorate a historical event dating back to the first half of the 19th century, which is linked to the Carlist Wars.
