Info
As well as its historical and geological exhibits, this museum offers an essential activity to round off your visit, available every day: the Gold Panning Workshop, where visitors are introduced to the basic techniques of gold panning.
The workshops complement a visit to the MOA and allow any participant, without the need for prior knowledge or specialist equipment, to learn the basics of panning for gold in the river. In a pool adjacent to the museum, each participant searches for and locates the gold nuggets hidden inside a small bucket of sand provided for the activity, which they can then take home as a souvenir. Advance booking is recommended.
Gold panning is a deeply-rooted tradition in this village, which has repeatedly hosted national and international championships in this discipline.
Furthermore, Navelgas is the ‘capital’ of the Valle del Oro, meaning that your immersion in this Asturian ‘golden’ region can be complemented by a tour showcasing the abundance of gold deposits, where extraction methods varied: from gold pans to the exploitation of mines by subsidence, which shaped a unique landscape that is still visible after many centuries.
