Route No. 5, known as ‘Bajo Nalón’, is a peri-urban trail, ideal for families, running mainly around La Pola Llaviana/Pola de Laviana, the municipal capital, and the parishes of Entrialgo and Villoria.

The route starts at the Molín de La Chalana Educational Centre, from where you take a track heading east; after passing under the road, you walk past the La Curuxera Hydroelectric Power Station, a historic facility that has been restored and is currently in operation.

Following the path, you reach Entrialgo and continue on to Villoria, where you pass by the medieval bridge and the church of San Nicolás, crossing through the village centre alongside the River Villoria, before eventually joining the ‘Aldea Perdida’ trail and returning to Entrialgo. Take care where the path joins the road leading down from Canzana.

On arriving in Entrialgo, of particular note is the birthplace of Armando Palacio Valdés, which houses the tourist office and a small museum dedicated to the writer, and, on a parallel street, the León family house.

Continue by crossing the road via the footbridge provided for this purpose and take the path between the plots heading west, following the gravel track that runs alongside the River Nalón until you reach the El Sutu Industrial Estate and, from there, follow a specially prepared path to the La Sota mine entrance, where the tragic accident of 1924 is commemorated.

Crossing the bridge over the River Nalón, you reach the ‘pump track’, a great spot for doing ‘jumps’ on your bike, and continue along the path, which is in perfect condition and well organised to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists, until you reach La Chalana Bridge, where you return to the route’s starting point.
