The route starts in the square of La Pola Somiedo, a town that is certainly worth a leisurely visit and runs parallel to the river Somiedo, very well embedded in the surrounding mountains.

After barely three kilometres we reach the La Malva hydroelectric power station, a historic building, and the crossing to the Alto de La Farrapona, an itinerary that follows the route through high mountain stages, although in this case we continue downstream passing through the villages of La Riera and Los Llanos until we reach Auguasmestas where the river Somiedo meets the river Pigüeña as a tributary of the latter.

It continues downstream, passing through Almurfe and Augüera, and at Augüerina it passes by the remarkable building of the Palace of Cardenal Cienfuegos, before reaching Belmonte/Balmonte, the capital of the council. At this point, the route follows the quiet street that runs parallel to the river and provides an opportunity to get a better view of the architecture and surroundings of the town centre.

From here, the route continues through a more open valley, with some meadows along the bends of the river until it reaches Samartín, located at the confluence of the Pigüeña with the Narcea River. At this point, the valley is already very wide, although it is still narrow and well-defined by the marked mountainous orography that shapes the landscape.

Continuing along the route, from Samartín we take the old Narcea Corridor road which runs between charming villages, avoiding as far as possible the already heavy traffic of the regional road, until we reach Corniana/Cornellana, where we must visit the Monastery of San Salvador, of great historical and architectural interest.
