We leave Oviedo/Uviéu on the old N-634 towards Santander, and at the Espíritu Santo Industrial Estate we take the service road and continue through Colloto/Cualloto and, after passing the railway tracks, we join the pleasant Nora river path, which we follow until we reach Granda. Here we can make a stop and visit the Palace of Meres and the Chapel of Santa Ana.
The route continues along the local Fonciello road towards El Berrón. We recommend that you follow the track to avoid riding on busier roads. We advance through areas of gentle topography until we reach Lieres, where we continue eastwards along the local road parallel to the old N-634, until we join the Viona path. Once past Solvay, we continue towards Nava. Between Lieres and Nava there are several short steep slopes. Nava is the world capital of natural cider, so it is highly recommendable to take advantage of this trip to visit its Cider Museum and discover more about this drink, which is an essential part of Asturian identity and its link to the traditions and customs of the region.
We continue along local roads with little vehicle traffic, passing through pastures and villages that conserve good examples of traditional architecture, granaries and paneras, traditional houses and houses of indianos. A good example is Ceceda/Cecea. We continue through this landscape until we reach the N-634 which takes us to the village of L'Infiestu.
Cross L'Infiestu and take the PI-6 road towards San Román, crossing the bridge over the river Piloña.
We continue winding through meadows and small villages to Arriondas/Les Arriondes, at the foot of the Sierra del Sueve and bathed by the river Sella. This village is a privileged enclave for lovers of outdoor activities and sports, the favourite being the descent of the Sella.
We continue along the road to Arenes (Parres), ascending some 3 km, until we intersect the PR-5 road, which takes us to Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís, where we arrive after 7 km of cycling, generally downhill. In Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís we will admire the medieval bridge over the river Sella, from whose central arch hangs the Victoria Cross. Also the church of Santa María, the burial mound of the Santa Cruz hermitage, dating from 4,000 BC, and Casa Dago, an emblematic building of mountain manor architecture that today houses the Information Centre of the Picos de Europa National Park.
Respect the direction of traffic on urban stretches.
