The route begins in the town of Villaviciosa, which has a very interesting historical site, in which the late Romanesque church of Santa María de la Oliva stands out, and we progress towards San Juan de Amandi along the AS-256a road, to see the Romanesque church. We continue in the direction of Ambás to visit the Monumental Complex of Valdediós, formed by the Church of San Salvador de Valdediós, a landmark of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture, and the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María la Real de Valdediós.

We continue along the road to Pueyes and follow the track at the junctions (some of which are not signposted), heading back towards Villaviciosa. We leave Villaviciosa along the AS-256, and further on we take the VV-5 road towards Playa del Puntal, on the left bank of the Villaviciosa Estuary (a Nature Reserve of great ecological value due to its scenic beauty and ornithological interest).

We continue our route and optionally visit the town of Tazones, a fishing village where Charles V disembarked and famous among other things for its small port. At low tide, dinosaur footprints can be seen on the coast, and the area of the lighthouse, one of the best preserved on the Asturian coast, is also interesting.

We continue along the VV-5, following the track along asphalted tracks between villages and meadows, to pass by the Romanesque church of Santa Eulalia de La Lloraza, and continue towards Gijón/Xixón, but not before stopping to contemplate the city from the viewpoint of La Providencia.

The city of Gijón/Xixón is open to the sea and has a very flat topography; it has a large number of cycle lanes that facilitate mobility. It is a city worth visiting, at least the old fishermen's quarter of Cimavilla, where the Casa Natal de Jovellanos is located, the hill of Santa Catalina with its sculpture by Chillida on the cliff, the Palace of Revillagigedo, which houses an international art centre, the modernist buildings... But the Jovellanos Theatre, the Botanical Gardens and the Universidad Laboral are also worth a visit.

Respect the direction of traffic on urban stretches.
