A recreational and sporting beach in the middle of the city
Poniente Beach is an artificial sandy area created in the mid-1990s that has become a hub of activity, especially in the summer months. Located in the marina area of Gijón/Xixón, it occupies the space that used to house the old shipyards.
Its waters, with a permanent green flag, are ideal for beginners in water sports and for children to swim. It also has a children's playground located on the sand itself. It is very popular with the public and has very good facilities.
It is forbidden to practise sports on the sand from 10:00 to 20:00 h. Boards, jet skis, motor or sailing boats, etc, are forbidden in the bathing area.
