San Martín del Rey Aurelio

Valley of the Nalón on all four sides, San Martín del Rey Aurelio overlooks the river and the mine. It is one of the areas with the most shafts and mining history, and the Museum of Mining and Industry (MUMI), located in L'Entregu/El Entrego, a pioneer in Spain in this type of facility and very close to the historic San Vicente shaft, which in the 1920s was the first in Spain to be self-managed by a mining union, is a good example of this. Very close to this facility is the Pozo Sotón, the only coal mine in Europe that offers guided tours of the interior, which also has a Centre of Experiences and Memory of Mining.

Mining has marked the course of events over the last century and there are many vestiges of industrial archaeology and architecture typical of an era in L'Entregu/El Entrego, as well as in Sotrondio - Pozo Sotón - and Blimea. The natural and rural environment surrounding these towns is part of the Protected Landscape of the Cuencas Mineras and offers hidden places to enjoy a cider or a typical Asturian recipe, such as those that the traveller can enjoy at the Fiesta de les Cebolles Rellenas in L'Entregu/El Entrego, Fiesta de los Pimientos Rellenos in Blimea or the Fiesta de los Nabos de Sotrondio (all of them declared of Tourist Interest), and then to wash down this 'hypercaloric' diet there is always the option of a long walk along the banks of the Nalón or a hiking route amidst the castles and mining villages.
