Hoces del Esva Natural Monument
- Title Valdés Western Asturias
Info
The area defined as a Natural Monument, within the Protected Landscape of the Esva basin, corresponds to the sector between the hills of Andornoso and Villagermonde, in the stretch from San Pedru (Paredes) to Brieves (La Chanona).
In this area, the Esva flows through a narrow gorge excavated in quartzite, whose walls reach a height of 400 metres.
The walls are covered by an oak grove of carbolian trees which, at the bottom of the valley, gives way to a narrow riparian formation of alders.
Starting from the village of Bustieḷḷḷu de Paredes, you can take a pleasant route through the area, with a 300-metre drop, part of which runs parallel to the river Esva, one of the most densely populated by otters in Spain.
