Die Bedeutung des Namens Villaviciosa ist mit dem Begriff der Fruchtbarkeit verknüpft, und in der Tat macht diese Gemeinde der Etymologie ihres Namens alle Ehre. Villaviciosa ist ein fruchtbares Land, das von der größten Flussmündung Asturiens bewässert wird. Es ist ein Ort der Pumaradas, was alle zwei Jahre mit dem Apfelfest gefeiert wird, das zu einem Fest von regionalem touristischem Interesse erklärt wurde. Villaviciosa ist auch ein Ort der schmackhaften Gärtnereien, der "buenes fabes", des reichhaltigen und hochwertigen Apfelweins, und wenn es um das Meer geht, kann man im historischen Hafen von Tazones - wo Karl V. an Land ging, als er zum ersten Mal spanischen Boden betrat - die besten Meeresfrüchte und Fische des Golfs von Biskaya probieren, in einer Fischerhafenatmosphäre, deren Häuser über dem Meer "hängen", was dem Ort eine romantische und versteckte Atmosphäre verleiht.
Die Hauptstadt der Gemeinde, Villaviciosa, in der eine der ältesten Karwochen Asturiens stattfindet, verfügt über eine sehr angenehme Altstadt, in der man Paläste und verzierte Häuser besichtigen kann und in der man beispielsweise die romanische Kirche Santa María de la Oliva besichtigen kann... denn diese Gemeinde verfügt über interessante Beispiele romanischer Architektur, wie San Juan de Amandi oder Santa María de Lugás, und präromanischer Architektur wie San Salvador de Valdediós, eine beeindruckende Kombination aus Kirche und Kloster. Unter den Naturschönheiten sticht die Ría hervor, wo man Vögel und die Artenvielfalt beobachten kann, aber auch alle Arten von Wassersport im Hafen von El Puntal, wo man aufgrund der großen Tradition und des Steinbruchs, den es in dieser Gegend für diese Spezialität gibt, häufig Kanu-Trainingseinheiten beobachten kann. Eine Fahrt entlang der Flussmündung führt uns zu den Stegen der Apfelweinfabrik El Gaitero, einer der ältesten in Asturien, die, wie viele andere Weinkellereien (Llagares) der Gemeinde, für Besucher geöffnet ist. Der Strand von Rodiles - eine Ikone des Surfsports -, das Dorf Sietes mit seinen alten Getreidespeichern oder der Jakobsweg sind weitere interessante Orte für Touristen, die diese Ecke des Apfelwein-Gebiets besuchen.
