Cadavéu hosts the unique celebration of La Regalina or La Riégala, which takes place on a magnificent promontory overlooking the Bay of Biscay.
It is a large open-air festival held in the Campo de La Garita, located next to the hermitage of the Virgin. It begins in the morning in the Rapa neighbourhood with a parade of decorated floats carrying ramus of alfiladas (flour and walnut buns) and flowers. There, the proclamation is read, the Danza prima is danced and, after the solemn mass, the procession with the Virgin of Riégala begins.
These events are followed by a picnic, leaving the dances and the traditional drawing of alfiladas for the afternoon. Although the Virgin has a legendary origin (dating back to the time of the wars against the Muslims), her festivity was created in 1931 by an outstanding local figure, Father Galo Fernández.
This event has been declared a Fiesta of Tourist Interest.
