La Pola Siero hosts the festival of Nuestra Señora del Carmen y el Carmín, popularly known as the Carmín de La Pola, which is held on the Monday following the feast of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
The festival begins with the opening speech and during the following days all kinds of sporting, cultural and recreational activities take place, culminating on Carmín Monday, the big day.
The big day starts with a concert in the Alfonso X park, after which the parade to the Carmín meadow begins, accompanied by music from pipers and brass bands, where a huge picnic is held. People prepare their empanadas and tortillas, and cider is served in abundance. At nightfall, the route goes in the opposite direction but, infected by the festive atmosphere, the pilgrims cry out for water, water that rains down lavishly from the houses that mark the descent towards the centre of La Pola. Once in the town, the fun continues until the early hours of the morning.
This event has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Principality of Asturias.
