Portizuelo Beach

Picturesque landscapes that attract even Nobel laureates

Portizuelo Beach is stony, long and narrow. Its uniqueness lies in the pointed rock formations that dot the coast. One is called "Piedra El Óleo" (the Oil Painting Stone), the name given it for the many artists who have immortalized it. It was the favorite stroll of Asturian Nobel Prize winner Severo Ochoa.

Accessible via two routes. From Villar, via a very hilly trail leading to a nearby shellfish farm. From Barcia, directly to the meadow next to the beach.

It belongs to the Western Coastline Protected Landscape.
