Info
Founded in 1982, it currently houses several collections, spread across three venues:
The Fontela Palace, in the town centre, which houses the tourist office and the ‘Villa ya Mercáu’ exhibition space, focusing on the history of Grado, the market, industry, commercial traditions and bourgeois life, with areas such as the shop, the market and the barber’s, amongst others. It also houses two private collections: the History of Photography and Accordions.
The Miranda-Valdecarzana Palace, also situated in the town centre and now the Casa de Cultura, is home to the Llagar de sidraexhibition, which contains two enormous cider presses, one of which features antique carvings, as well as other objects relating to the production and consumption of cider.
La Cardosa, 500 metres from the centre of Villa de Grau/Grado, is home to two collections: the Traditional Culture Collection and the Civil War Collection.
The Traditional Culture collection brings together a legacy relating primarily to the central-western region of Asturias and is organised into several sections dedicated to bread (mills, treadmills), the home (kitchen, bedrooms, crockery), farming and livestock rearing (threshing floors, communal lands, tools, etc.), and traditional trades (blacksmith’s forge, loom, basketry, carpentry, pottery, cider press, barber’s shop, school, etc.)
The Civil War exhibition also features three sections showcasing the history of the Civil War in Asturias and in Grado, as well as the fortifications scattered throughout the municipality.
