In the Turón valley, a mining area from the 1860s until the beginning of the present century, there are an exceptional number of remains linked to mining activity in an area of great environmental interest.
The guided tour starts in the vicinity of the Santa Bárbara shaft, the first in Spain to be protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest, and uses the old narrow-gauge railway trench of the dominant company in the valley (Hulleras del Turón, a subsidiary of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya) to show us and take us to the La Rebaldana sinkhole (late 19th century, recovered by the Cultural Association of La Bizcaya) and the La Rebaldana mine (late 19th century, recovered by the Cultural Association of La Bizcaya), where we can see the remains of the mining activity. XIX century, recovered by the Asociación Cultural y Minera Sanata Bárbara), the Pozu Espinos ( accessible from the extraction tower, lamp store and viewpoint of the dump) and to reach the spectacular 1966 Fortuna powder magazine, in the vicinity of the mass grave of tragic memory.
It is an experience that allows you to directly understand the landscape generated by this economic activity, a lesson in history and technique embodied in vestiges of great heritage value, which have the breath of the authentic and lived.
If you are travelling with a pet, you should know that they are not allowed inside.
