Asturias Museum of Mining and Industry (MUMI)

This facility, conceived as a tribute and an installation that preserves the historical memory of mining for posterity, comprises various areas displaying images of mining activities, machinery, minerals, literature and everything relating to the sociology of mining – the infirmary, the washhouse, etc.-.

Perhaps the most spectacular area is the mock-up mine, which realistically recreates the interior of a mine (including the ‘cage’). Furthermore, the museum is strategically located in an area where, just a few metres away, lies the historic San Vicente shaft – the first to be self-managed by a miners’ union during the 1920s –; the Sotón shaft, which is still in operation and has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest; the Samuño Valley Ecomuseum; the group of bridges on the Langreo Railway – ‘Los ingleses’ and ‘Los gallegos’ – and the Duro-Felguera Metallurgical Society factory. A whole array of historical sites and attractions that make up a veritable ‘golden mile’ of industrial tourism.

Group visits:

• We recommend booking group visits as far in advance as possible: 985 663 133 / reservas@mumi.es.
• The minimum group size is 15 people.
• The booking time for a visit to the Museum indicates the time the group should arrive at the site.
• Access to the mine will depend on visitor numbers at the time.
• We recommend that the group allows around two hours for the visit, before the Museum closes.

Individual visits:

• You do not need to be part of a large group to access the mine.
• Visitors to the Asturias Museum of Mining and Industry who are visiting individually will be admitted to the mine in groups formed at the Museum itself.
• The time of entry to the mine will depend on visitor numbers at the time.
• It is recommended that you allow around two hours for the visit, before the museum closes.
