Info
The Muniellos Interpretation Centre building, which blends into its surroundings, is situated on a spur of the Las Vachinas peak, at an altitude of 850 metres, in a former quarry that has been environmentally restored, between the villages of Oballo and Moal, outside the boundaries of the Integral Reserve.
The exhibition is spread across several rooms:
Room 1. Getting to Know the Forest. It features a table with an organic profile and six computer stations, a rotating platform displaying replicas of elements found in the forest, and an audio system, where visitors interactively attempt to identify the forest’s most significant features.
Room 2. Discovering the Forest. This is divided into two sections. The first, ‘Observing and Listening’, recreates a walk through the forest, with large-scale images of the forest and depictions of flora and fauna. The second section illustrates how people have integrated into the environment through the area’s traditional buildings.
Room 3. A walk through the forest. This is a small screening room showing a film that offers a bird’s-eye view of Muniellos.
Room 4. Muniellos, Biosphere Reserve. A central model takes centre stage in this room, with a projection system highlighting the various features of the reserve in relief.
Room 5. Further information. A small room offering more detailed information via two computer stations, publications and books.
Entry to the Muniellos Integral Reserve is limited to twenty visitors per day, subject to prior application and authorisation from the Principality of Asturias. However, the Centre’s staff can provide information on walks in nearby areas that are just as beautiful and well-preserved as those within the Reserve.
