This sandy beach, located between the boroughs of Castropol and Tapia de Casariego, occupies an area of 228,000 m2 divided by Peñarronda Stream.
In its western half, northwest winds have created a dune field which is home to a variety of flora.
The natural values that have led to its listing as a natural monument can be summed up in two facts: it marks the western end of the reduced nesting area of the Eurasian oystercatcher and it constitutes the only spot where Sand Stock (Malcolmia littorea) grows on the Asturian coast.
