Berducedo - Buspol - Presa de Salime - Grandas

Berducedo - Grandas de Salime 20,7

The GR passes from the council of Allande to the council of Grandas de Salime through large plains covered with pine(Pinus sylvestris) plantations which, in many cases, have given way to heather scrub after repeated fires. The rest of the territory is made up of meadows and farmland, on which there are brañas and small farmhouses. The final part of the stage runs along the slopes that contain the Salime reservoir, with fantastic views of the whole valley.

From Berducedo there is a main route and an alternative route. To follow the main route, we enter the centre of Berducedo and, leaving the church of Santa María to the right, we take a concrete track that leads off to the left, a few metres after passing the parish church. The church of Santa María de Berducedo dates from the 15th century and was once a pilgrims' hospital. With a single nave and rectangular chancel, the church has a projecting front and southern portico. Its façade is crowned by a belfry with three arches and to the right is a beautiful yew tree.

Leaving the village behind, the track ascends slightly along the Cordal de Berducedo and reaches a road that descends, with fantastic views to the right of the council of Grandas de Salime. On this descent we pass through the rural villages of La Mesa and, later, Buspol.

In Buspol, the route leaves the road to one side and continues along a dirt track that starts at the bend to the right. For a long stretch, the path descends through pine woods, towards the Salime reservoir, until it finally reaches the AS-14 road, along which it descends to the reservoir.

The last stretch continues up the road, skirting the reservoir in a southerly direction. After passing a watercourse, the road reaches a signposted junction. From this crossroads the southern alternative of the stage joins it. Continuing along the main route, after the bend in the road, the path turns off to the left and begins to climb along a small path that leads to Grandas, the final destination of the stage.

Alternative route 28,4

The alternative route follows the road to Valledor, which passes next to the Berducedo recreational area, until we come to a track on the right, which we take and which leads into a Scots pine forest. It goes round the southern part of the Berducedo mountain range (belonging to the Sierras de Carondio and Valledor Protected Landscape), from where we can see the whole of the Sierra de Valledor and the Alto de Valvaler (Allande), as well as the small villages scattered around the rivers Trabaces and Valledor. On this stretch we pass the hermitage of Bedramón, located among pine woods, where the feast of Nuestra Señora de Bedramón is celebrated every 15th August. Once past the hermitage, we continue walking for a long stretch until we reach Villarpedre. Passing Villarpedre the path continues to the reservoir, where it is possible to connect with the GR on the other side of the reservoir, enjoying a pleasant boat ride. Once we have crossed the reservoir, having got off the boat, we continue along an ascending track that offers good views of the deep Salime valley and the dam in the background. This track joins the other main alternative shortly before reaching Grandas.

However, if we decide to follow the alternative route from Berducedo to the Río del Oro, we start the route next to the signpost at the start of the stage in this town and continue along the AS-34 road, which leads to Villarpedre. The first section of this route follows the road, passes next to the Berducedo recreational area and then continues along a dirt track that goes off to the right, entering a Scots pine forest.

The next section of the variant continues along the same dirt track, from which we can see the whole of the Sierra de Valledor and the Alto de Valvaler (Allande), as well as the small villages scattered around the Trabaces and Valledor rivers. On this stretch we pass the hermitage of Bedramón, located among pine woods, where the feast of Nuestra Señora de Bedramón is celebrated every 15th August. Once past the hermitage, we continue walking for a long stretch until we reach Villarpedre. Passing Villarpedre the path continues to the reservoir, where it is possible to connect with the natural path on the other side of the reservoir, enjoying a pleasant boat ride. The boat service is free of charge and is open from 9:30 am to 6 pm, but for better coordination it is preferable to make an appointment with the service manager on 607 487 596. Once you have crossed the reservoir, having got off the boat, you continue along an ascending track that offers good views of the deep valley of Salime and the dam in the background. This track joins the other main alternative shortly before reaching Grandas.
