The Refugio de la Vega de Ario, at an altitude of 1,630 m, is perfectly situated both for those who do long walks and for those who just want to take a stroll through the Picos and enjoy a good meal and a cool drink.
The location of this valley means that the Refugio del Marqués de Villaviciosa has one of the best views of the Picos. From here you can see the Central or Urrieles massif, with the peaks of Torrecerredo, Llambrión, El Tesorero, etc., standing out.
In addition to the most emblematic peaks of the Western Massif, such as the Jultayu, the Cuvicente, the Verdilluenga...
A quiet place where you can rest, regain strength and spend a very pleasant and homely time, where they will be happy to assist anyone who approaches.
How to get there?
From Cangas de Onís take the AS-114 to Soto de Cangas, then the AS-262 to Covadonga and continue towards Ercina Lake. On the left hand side and in a S-SE direction, the path is well marked and heads towards the sheepfold of La Veguina or La Ercina. The path continues upwards through the Cuenye channel. If we continue straight on we will see the yellow painted signs and after a short ascent, they give us a view of the Majada de Redondiella.
A narrow path between rocks descends to the Jou del Llaguiellu where we must cross the stream to begin a steep zigzagging ascent.
At the top there are some fields called Campizas and Abedules from where we ascend to the Collado del Jito. Turning off to the left, almost on the plain, we arrive at La Vega de Ario Hut.
