These are lands with a rugged, almost aggressive orography, which adopt forms of great scenic beauty.
Info
These are lands of rugged orography that take on forms of great beauty. But the richness of Tineo and Allande is not only on the surface, but also deep in the bowels of the earth, where the Castro peoples already found the gold that the Romans later extracted systematically through mines. The traces that were dug centuries ago are still visible today.
Route
Tuña - Cangas del Narcea - Monte Furado 40
The car is the most advisable companion for this adventure. We will first visit "Tuña", which we will reach from Oviedo in approximately one hour by the Espina motorway (A-63), then the AS-15 towards Cangas del Narcea, and then the AS-310. This small town is famous for its large houses, granaries and palaces, as well as being the birthplace of the liberal general Rafael del Riego. The palaces of Cabo del Río and Flórez Valdés are just a few metres away, as well as the Casa de la Torre and the monument to the chosco, one of the typical gastronomic products of the council.
We resume the itinerary by car to approach the capital of the council, taking the AS-15 road towards Cangas del Narcea, and a detour to the right on the AS-215, brings us to Tinéu in about 25 minutes. This millenary village preserves examples of rural architecture of great value, so the tourist can stroll between the town hall and the palace of Merás, the square of Las Campas, the primitive temple of San Pedro and the palace of García Tineo. Or, a little further from the centre, the chapels of San Roque and El Viso. The neighbourhood of Cimadevilla deserves its own mention.
On returning to the car, the traveller continues on to Navelgas, twenty-five kilometres and a forty-minute journey along the AS-217. Navelgas is the nerve centre of gold, with the MOA (the Asturias Gold Museum) and the headquarters of gold batting clubs, which organise world competitions. After visiting the museum, the traveller can take the Gold Footprint Route, which starts from a recreational area accessed from a path next to the petrol station and is three kilometres long (there and back). The route crosses ancient Roman mines.
Navelgas - San Martín de Beduledo 50
The second day is reserved for Allande, a council situated to the southwest. From Navelgas we reach Pola de Allande on the AS-219, and the starting point of the excursion is in the capital of this council. "La Puela" is a small town with some hidden treasures, whose streets invite you to discover the Palace of Cienfuegos or the large Indian mansions. Just seven kilometres away is San Martín de Beduledo, a town through which, along a track prepared for cars, you can access the San Chuis castro, which is free to enter and is an example of the castreña culture.
In the afternoon, via the AS-14, in the direction of Grandas de Salime, the journey ends in Montefurado, where the Fana de la Freita and Cueva de Xuan complex, which are ancient gold mines, can be found. This point is also a crossing point on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, so tourists can see a small part of the route.
