A leisure centre in the heart of a fishing village
Santa Marina beach, Ribadesella’s main urban beach, is a stretch of sand around one kilometre long, bordered by a splendid promenade, with all the amenities you would expect from a beach. In the summer of 2004, along with five other beaches across Spain, it was awarded the Q for Tourism Quality in the first round of beach certification. Since then, the quality of the beach’s facilities and services has been maintained and improved, with the Q certification being renewed annually, each year with higher scores.
The beach usually has strong waves, making it a favourite with surfers. There are also several schools in the area offering surfing lessons.
The beach stretches out at the mouth of the River Sella; it is an urban beach and is very busy. At the western end, dinosaur footprints ( ) and tracks (icnites) have been found, and behind the promenade there are numerous Modernist and Indian-style villas.

If you travel with your pet you should know that...
- From 8 June to 15 September, dogs are not permitted on the beach between 8.00 am and 9.00 pm. Between 9.00 pm and 8.00 am, dogs are permitted provided they are kept on a lead at all times.
- On promenades and in urban areas, in zones near beach access points, pets are permitted provided they are kept on a fixed lead and, where necessary due to the animal’s characteristics, must wear a muzzle.
