Info
El Espartal, together with the beach of San Juan, which is located at the mouth of the Avilés estuary, and the beach of Salinas, protected by the Peñona and considered, due to its orientation, one of the best in northern Spain for surfing, form one of the longest sandy areas in the Principality of Asturias, almost 3 km long.
Declared a Natural Monument, a series of elevated wooden footbridges and a series of viewpoints have been installed here to minimise the impact of pedestrian traffic on the dunes, as these are sensitive and threatened habitats. Therefore, access to the beach should be via the paths provided, avoiding walking outside the walkways.
Rescue service
- Daily: 07/06 to 08/09
If you travel with your pet you should know that...
- The access and presence of domestic animals on the beach is prohibited.
- On the promenades, in the vicinity of the beaches, except in the dune systems and on the peninsula of La Peñona, pets are allowed all year round, and must always be kept on a fixed leash of no more than two metres in length and, when necessary due to the characteristics of the animal, must be muzzled.
