Info
The palace, situated opposite the marina in Gijón/Xixón and next to the statue of Don Pelayo, is an 18th-century building, although one of its two towers dates back to the 15th century.
The building we see today is almost certainly the work of the architect Francisco Menéndez Camino, who renovated the original tower and erected the rest of the building.
Externally, the two towers, which are taller than the central section, are square in cross-section, topped with battlements and featuring a base decorated with historicist-style openings.
The building’s decorative splendour is concentrated on the central section. It is divided into three storeys and five bays, with the central bay being slightly wider. The ground floor features decorative arcades flanked by columns; the first floor has five balconies; and the second floor has five windows. The bays on the upper storeys are flanked by pilasters, except for the central one, which is flanked by columns. Above the central balcony is a large panel bearing the coat of arms of the Ramírez Jove family.
The entire upper section of the central body is crowned by a stone balustrade with pinnacles. Adjoining the palace is the Collegiate Church of St John the Baptist, designed in 1720 by Pedro Muñiz Somonte.
Built in:Baroque (18th century)
