The Sierra del Cuera, the Picos de Europa and the river Cares are the natural orographies that mark a landscape and a landscape with a unique personality. Peñamellera Alta has been and still is a land of shepherds, livestock farmers, cheese makers, fishermen and, in short, people who live and love nature. Trout, salmon, chamois, roe deer or goats are often the figures of a dream natural scenery that fulfils the expectations of fishermen, hunters, walkers, canoeists and in general of those who enjoy activities in an unspoilt nature.
Peñamellera Alta has a deep Indian mark - especially in Alles, the capital of the council, and also has a deep prehistoric mark, taking into account that in the Llonín cave some of the best paintings of all European cave art are kept safe in the caveof Llonín. Rozagás, Ruenes, etc. are other names of towns and villages where Asturian rural life has stood still in time. Cheese, honey, bees and salmon, such as those that can be seen in the crystal-clear waters of the Cares at dawn in reserves such as Niserias... or at the height of La Vidre Bridge. This is Peñamellera Alta.
