Info
Located entirely within the municipality of Tineo, the La Florida Reservoir, together with the La Barca Reservoir, forms one of the main large-scale hydroelectric schemes on the River Narcea. Its dam stands 19 metres high and the reservoir has a catchment area of 1,005 km².
Beyond its hydroelectric function, La Florida is particularly notable for its natural wealth. Its banks are home to riparian vegetation, and its waters provide a favourable habitat for numerous waterbirds, making the area a particularly interesting spot for those who enjoy wildlife watching.
One of its main attractions is the ‘Paseo de las Aves’ (Bird Walk), a short trail running alongside the reservoir and equipped with information panels. The trail offers an easy way to explore the biodiversity typical of wetlands and to learn more about the species and ecosystems found in this area.
The reservoir also offers opportunities for swimming and recreational fishing, thus combining natural interest with a range of options for enjoying the outdoors.
La Florida and the nearby La Barca Reservoir together form the Pilotuerto and Calabazos Reservoirs Game Reserve, reinforcing the importance of this area of the Narcea Valley for wildlife.
Access is via the AS-214 road from Tineo to Soto de la Barca, continuing from there along the AS-15 towards the reservoir.
