La Granda
- Title Gozón Central Asturias
Info
Situated in the municipality of Gozón, some 11 kilometres from Lluanco/Luanco, the La Granda Reservoir is used for industrial and water supply purposes. It has a shoreline of over 4 kilometres and a catchment area of more than 1 km².
One of its main attractions is its rich biodiversity and birdlife. The reservoir has been designated a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) and is a particularly interesting spot for wildlife watching, with the presence of ducks, coots and water rails, amongst other species associated with wetlands. It is also recognised as a Game Reserve.
A footpath running alongside the reservoir allows visitors to explore the surroundings at a leisurely pace, enjoy the landscape and stop to observe the birds that find refuge and feeding grounds here. This combination of walking and wildlife watching makes La Granda a particularly attractive destination for those seeking to discover nature at a relaxed pace.
Activities such as canoeing and fishing are permitted on the reservoir, whilst motorised boating is prohibited – a restriction which also helps to preserve the tranquillity of the area.
Access is straightforward, although to reach the area you must pass through two security checkpoints at the former ENSIDESA site – a factor worth bearing in mind before your visit.
