Info
Fed by the waters of the River Nalón, the Rioseco Reservoir is situated some four kilometres from Rusecu/Rioseco, the capital of the municipality of Sobrescobio. In addition to its scenic value, it plays an important role in water supply, industrial use and hydroelectric power generation.
The reservoir has been designated a Game Reserve and is of considerable ornithological interest due to the presence of various species of ducks and other waterbirds. To facilitate birdwatching, there is a hide at the far end of the reservoir from which visitors can observe the wildlife in peace.
The surrounding area is particularly inviting for walks and hiking. There are various routes in the vicinity offering sweeping views of the reservoir and the surrounding mountains. Throughout the day, the light transforms the appearance of the water, creating reflections and hues that lend the landscape a special charm.
The site also features a footpath, a viewing platform, rest areas and a sensory park designed for children, making this spot an ideal choice for a family outing to enjoy nature in a peaceful and accessible way.
For safety and conservation reasons, boating is strictly prohibited on the waters of the Rioseco Reservoir.
