Tanes

Situated between the municipalities of Caso and Sobrescobio, some four kilometres from El Campu and Rusecu/Rioseco, the Tanes Reservoir plays a key role in supplying water to much of central Asturias, as well as being used for electricity generation and industrial purposes.

Its location in the heart of the Redes Natural Park makes it a site of outstanding scenic value. The reservoir is surrounded by extensive beech, oak and mixed Atlantic forests, home to species such as beech, oak, chestnut, yew and holly, forming one of the most characteristic forest landscapes in this natural area.

Its shores offer various opportunities for walking and taking in the surroundings, whilst birdwatchers can spot ducks, waders, herons and other waterbirds associated with this ecosystem.

One of the most unique experiences Tanes has to offer is the chance to go on guided kayaking trips. Paddling through its waters allows you to view the landscape from a different perspective and explore spots that can only be seen from the reservoir itself. Further information and bookings

Boating is subject to specific protection and conservation conditions. Certain non-motorised activities, such as rowing and canoeing, are permitted, although there are restrictions regarding boating periods, the number of vessels and conditions of use. Swimming is prohibited in the Tanes Reservoir.

Access is via Rusecu/Rioseco along the AS-17 road, one of the main routes into the Redes Natural Park.
