Info
Asturias Day is a classic summer event in this city and is always held on the first Sunday in August. After a picnic in the Cerro de Santa Catalina, there is a parade of floats and folk groups from Asturias and other regions and countries along the Muro de San Lorenzo promenade to the Molinón stadium, where it is rounded off with a great festival.
This festival is the prelude to Gijón's Semana Grande, which begins a few days later, and is an exponent of the city's traditional hospitality towards people and groups who come from all over the world to participate and add a touch of colour and exoticism to this festival.
The Cerro de Santa Catalina, the Jardines del Náutico, the Plaza Mayor, the Muro de San Lorenzo and the Estadio del Molinón are typical Gijón venues, all in the coastal surroundings of the city, which means that the festival has, in addition to the entertainment component, landscapes of exceptional beauty.
