Valdesoto float parade. Siero

On Monday 10 August, Valdesoto celebrates the high point of its festivities with the 73rd Provincial Float Competition of San Félix, which has been designated a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.

The traditional parade dates back to 1950, when a group of local residents attended the festival with several floats decorated with scenes depicting traditional customs. Since then, year after year, ingenuity, imagination and craftsmanship have shaped floats inspired by Asturian folklore, mythology, rural life, seafaring and mining traditions, as well as picaresque tales, popular humour and current affairs.

The main event of the day will begin at 5.00 pm and will feature the participation of twelve clubs: El Chole, Los Panoyos, Cotiellos, Bendición, Los Marotos, El Llagarón, Ca’ Fredín, Los Escolinos, El Chabolu, El Matu, Nun Me Tientes and Les Escueles.

One of the unique features of the parade is that the clubs do not simply display their floats, but also stop in front of the crowd to perform comic, traditional and satirical sketches.

Programme for Monday 10 August

• 10.00 am – Firework display.
• 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm – Distribution of pastries and a bottle of wine to members and supporters of the organising association.
• 5.00 pm – 73rd San Félix Provincial Float Competition. After the parade – Country picnic.
• 10.30 pm – Grand open-air dance.
• 11.30 pm – Prize-giving ceremony for the float competition.
• 00:00 – Fireworks display.

In addition to the parade, the Valdesoto festivities feature, throughout their programme, open-air dances, folk dances, members’ day, children’s day and other activities.

The San Félix Float Parade is one of the most unique and popular events of the Asturian summer and brings together numerous locals and visitors every year.
