Event declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Principality of Asturias.
The town of Pimiango hosts the famous festival of Santu Medé (San Emeterio and San Celedonio).
It is a tradition for all those attending to walk in procession from the church of Pimiango to the hermitage of San Emeterio. It is more than a two-kilometre walk through a place of exceptional beauty, where the Pindal cave, declared a World Heritage Site, the lighthouse of San Emeterio and the monastery of Tina are located.
Sunday is the big day of these festivities, and in the afternoon the ramu is auctioned off in the square, after a sung mass.
Programme
7th March
- 19:30 h. Council House. Inauguration of the festival. Lecture by Santu Medé and his carpentry workshop.
- 22:00 h. Verbena. With Fernando Álvarez and the Límite Orchestra.
8th March
- 10:00 h. Parade by the Grupo de Gaitas Principado.
- 11:00 h. Procession from the parish church of San Roque to the hermitage of San Emeterio.
- 12:00 h. Solemn campaign mass in the chapel of San Emeterio.
- 12:45 h. Performance by folklore groups. Grupo de Gaitas Principado; Grupo de Baile Tradicional del Suroccidente Asturiano; Perendengue. El Bail.le Cultural Association; Santa Justa Dance Group.
- 13:30 h. Procession with the saint to the chapel. Offering of the Ramu.
- 14:00 h. Concert in the chapel by Ochote Cantos del Fontán.
- 14:30 h. End of the Ramu. Picnic lunch.
