Festivities of San Roque in Llanes
Plaza de San Roque
Llanes
The Chapel of San Roque is located in the Plaza de San Roque and houses his statue. The Fiesta of San Roque begins with the fireworks and the novena. Its maximum exponent is found in the multitudinous procession from the Basilica to his chapel.
The day of San Roque begins with a barrage of Royal Bombs. After the parade through the town and the Solemn Religious Function, the procession takes place to return the image of the Saint to his Chapel, accompanied by hundreds of women dressed as villagers or llanisca and young people dressed as porruanos. The procession stops at the Plaza de Parres Sobrino where the offering of the branches takes place and the pilgrims of the Bando perform the Pilgrim Dance before the image of the Saint.
Once the Saint has been introduced into his Chapel, the most important folklore festival of eastern Asturias takes place in the same square with dances such as the Fandango de Pendueles, Jota del Cuera, Danza del Señor San Pedro, Danza de San Juan de Nueva, Xiringüelu de Naves and the ancestral Pericote de Llanes.
