Luarca/Ḷḷuarca
The festivities of San Timoteo in Luarca/Ḷḷuarca begin with a fireworks display that lights up the town's sky. That same evening there is a lively evening party and different festive spaces designed for both young and old to find their own atmosphere.
On 22 August, the great pilgrimage of San Timoteo takes place. From the early hours of the morning, firecrackers announce the day and wake up the village. The peñas get ready with food and drink, and soon a tide of pilgrims make their way to the hermitage of San Timoteo. The sanctuary is located in the well-known Campo de San Timoteo, where the pilgrims arrive accompanied by bagpipes, dressed in the traditional chambron, carrying a walking stick and the characteristic T of bread around their necks.
After the mass in honour of the saint, whose image is moved to an outdoor chapel, the long-awaited pilgrimage lunch begins, a picnic that brings together thousands of people in the meadows surrounding the hermitage, giving life to one of the most emblematic pilgrimages in Asturias.
