XXXVI Certamen del Quesu Casín (36th Casín Cheese Contest) in Caso

El Campu
The Campu hosts a new edition of this event that revolves around two fundamental axes: the market with the stalls of the producers of Casín cheese and the competition of cheeses made by dairies belonging to the Quesu Casín PDO. In parallel, various complementary activities take place, such as cooking competitions, tastings, workshops, exhibitions, performances by folk groups, solidarity marathon and special menus.
Casín, an exquisite and elaborate artisan product made from raw cow's milk with a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), is considered to be one of the oldest cheeses in Spain, and even in the world, as written testimonies of it date back to the 14th century. It also has a peculiar way of making it (based on kneading the same curd several times, preferably just once a week), which some specialists link directly to the Neolithic period and the first settlers of the Iberian Peninsula. Its antiquity and laborious production make it, therefore, an agri-food product of great character and strong imprint.
